I Haven'T Honored a Single Promise

I've loved you with little fondness,
not giving you my whole tenderness;
I've reached for a stranger's arms,
keeping you away from my desires!

No, I haven't honored a single promise...
making you cry without my embrace;
I did a world of wrong many times,
can a tear, or heartbreak be undone?
How cruel I have been giving kisses
to total strangers and not give you one!

Should my regret end now, or last forever?
Should your pity turn into forgiveness?
I don't deserve it, darling: let me suffer...
until I understand the pain of your loneliness!

No, I haven't honored a single promise,
making you cry without my embrace;
ah, you shivered and reached for me...
I wasn't there to hold you closer to me!
