I Have Autism

I have autism, mild MR, and OCD. I had those mental disabilities since I was three years
old. Even though I'm autistic, I'm still functioning just like everybody else. Having
autism doesn't mean one individual is from another planet besides Earth; having autism
means accepting for who he and/or she really is.  Having autism also means that he and/or
she is normal, just like everyone else. I've learned that being an autistic human being
doesn't have its toll on me. Of course I will get married in the future and have a family of my
own, even though I have autism. Pretty soon, they will, too. The other greatest part of
having autism is when he or she is in their own world and the real world at the same time.
Despitethe fact that I have autism, I'm still human like everybody else. And if there's a problem with
some of us having autism, then that's on them. And like I said, I have autism and I'm very
proud of the fact that I'm still a human being.

Ellen Fahey April 17, 2011 at 6:00 AM Brashard, I think it is amazing that you sit down and write like this! Many 'typical' people wouldn't/couldn't do this. Each one of us has different abilities. One thing for sure....God doesn't make junk! Two of the kids I work with are unbelievable at mathematicians. Two others play the piano beautifully! Acknowledge your gifts and celebrate them by using them for good. I am so impressed by you! Ellen

Sara Kendrick April 16, 2011 at 4:54 PM I hope that this is just a write about these conditions..If it is about your life, I see that you have accepted your mild disabilites and handle them very well...Today it is better in so many ways for child with disabilites for people are more accepting, schools are more capable of handling teaching children who have mental handicaps..Years ago it was not like that..Sara

Not many children with autism live independently after reaching adulthood, though some become successful....from what I have read...as long as your family is taking proper care of you and maintaining you as they should be doing...I mean if you get too sick...and notice things..then they should move with speedy action... They have touched my life in many ways.....made me a better listener, as they have trouble communicating their thoughts; made me smile and laugh countless times, as they love to make people smile; made me a more patient person, as they need a little more time to grasp a concept or process something that has been said to them. The list goes on! And yes, they are just like 'typical' kids. God bless you!
