I Hate You Dog

Especially when your nudge my ear
with a wet nose
at 4 A.M. in the morning
then woof like an airhorn right into it.

It sure gets old, and it never fails
to send me into a tailspin
twirling madly in that alarm clock
I call my heart.

I should not let you sleep in the bedroom,
but then you'd just chew the sofa up.

At the back door freezing my ass off -
grumbling.

I hate you dog,

You come back in
flop down, legs-up,
paws waving in the air
demanding a belly rub.

O for God's sake!

Great poem, I’m sure you wouldn’t have it any other way. John
