I Had a Friend

Once upon a time ago
I had friend you see
Jet black hair and soft brown eyes.
And never did he leave.

We'd take long walks
We'd tell bad jokes
He'd hold me when I cried
And give me bad advice.

It's been so long
Since I've seen that face
But the friendly smirk
Is now a guarded look.

In silence there we sit
Far away averting our gaze
We're in a very sinful place
To write our failures again.

But guilt and sorrow
And shameful pain
Have me biting back some tears
Because it is my fault.

You see I had a friend
I broke his heart
And turned my eyes away,
Then he watched me take my leave.

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Have a blessed day.
