I Give You

Five, six seven and
down the stairs we go.

Dancing steps carry us
toward applauding crowd
as we are singing Viva Las Vegas.

The King and I.
In Marilyn Monroe’s pink, sequin dress.

At the very bottom we get on one knee
and throw our hands in the air.

The blinding spotlights fade
and I wake up.

Now I know.
