I finally found hope
some people find hope in a valentine or a person’s hug
Others find hope in a prayer, church service or a dog’s lick
I did not find hope in any of the regular places
It’s not that I was not looking
Well, let’s rephrase that
I did not know I was looking
but I think I might have been
Because hope is something that brought me out of my funk
My relatives tried to instill it into me
They are horrible people; their negativity bounces off their pores
One of my neighbors tried in her bumbling idiot way
But I have never liked her or her little dog
I finally found hope in a white-walled padded room
where I could be myself, see myself and play with myself
