I Dreamt

I dreamt of you, held you
as I never would in my waking hours.
A sweet tender moment, silently,
we sat together in peaceful calm.
I knew it was not true reality,
and I knew in any moment, you would fade,
but still, I clung to you, to us,
and hoped against all that you would stay.
But as you leaned in to speak,
I knew I was waking, so I smiled,
and took in the moment quickly,
to be comforted on a rainy day.
Then, tearfully, I let go, and my heart
remained with you in the world of dreams.
