I Don't Dare

Night hours linger
breathless
I hold your hand
together wait
for the pain
to subside

I don’t dare
fall asleep
wrapping gently
my arms around you
to keep watch
all night long
kissing your ear
releasing whispers
of I love you

I don’t dare
fall asleep
