I Could Be Her

You want to know,
why I'm mad?
Why I'm sad?
Why I'm outraged?!
My thought process engaged?
Got me wondering...
Got me wondering...
But, I can't wrap my brain around it!
And, I've tried,
but I'm still astounded!
Because... I could be her!
I mean...
It could have been me.
So now, my feelings have gone south.
Yes, straight to hell,
because, since when,
do you get sentenced to death,
for having a slick mouth!?
And, since when,
do the one's assigned to
serve and protect,
reign terror, unchecked!?
Injecting their infection,
with no fear of an inspection!?
And I wonder,
"How can this be!?"
This is absolutely absurd!
And, the truth is,
I'm...Just...Like...Her!!
I'm at a loss for words.

Joyce Hightower-What a beautiful poem that is so true. Danita Allen is such a talented poet. I read 2 of her other poems, and they are wonderful! So much real life stated in them. She is another Maya Angelou!!
