I Broke Every Rule In the Book

The sound of that door slamming
I still smell your perfume
Lord it's hard to imagine
What I'm going to do

You told me you were leaving
Time after time
I never thought I’d see
You ever say goodbye

Cause you gave and you gave
And I took all you had
I broke your heart
Made you fighting mad

Looking back it all seems so cruel

All the lies, all the tears
All the years and the fears
All your joy in life seemed to disappear

God I'll never forget that look

I broke every rule in the book

All your friends thought you were crazy
I caused your mom and dad much pain
I slammed a couple shots
But nothing could ease my shame

Leaving early every morning
Staying out drinking late at night
You still told me you loved me
By candle light

You did your best to see it through
I stole your love - and what was left of you

Cause you gave and you gave
And I took all you had
I broke your heart
Made you fighting mad

Looking back it all seems so cruel
Yea baby I know I'm the fool

All the lies, all the tears
All the years and the fears
All your joy in life seemed to disappear

God I'll never forget that look

I broke every rule in the book

You said goodbye without a look

I broke every rule in the book
