Ink Empress' I Breathe Contest...written 19 Nov 24 ...based on the past experience of my older cousin
I breathe in the pungent flavor of pain, the bitter taste in nightfall's weeping as stars hide behind gray- washed posts , rain suffocating a prayer for comfort, a sorrowful litany echoing among drained dew... Lost, alone in melange of grieving thoughts of fragile child , lost and thiefed by dark virus from cell's weakened body-- I clutch babe's pashima until silence breaks the spell of another morn, raw and stained from unrequited dreams, from a mother's fervor locked in chains never to be caressed with care... Into frozen cuddle disarranged by lacerated dreams, oh infant falls asleep innocent of pale slumber somewhere...where? While I, a woman drenched by restless agony lay among grasses coiled with a box of lullabies only to drown and spill my being, as I breathe in the bitter scream of farewell.

Dear nette, this is so poignant and heart wrenching really, how youv written especially in a way that would make readers feel and grasp the depth of grief, of a mother engrossed in all the memories and loss of a child, i felt this so strongly! Especially felt the lines “ While I, a woman drenched by restless agony lay among grasses coiled with a box of lullabies only to drown and spill my being” i cant even imagine! The pain. Thank you for sharing this. Congratulations on your win.

Nette, when death comes, it affects those of us still living to deal with the sorrow. You point out the pain eloquently. Nothing can take this away from us.

Is there any worse pain than losing a child? I can't think of one. Your poetry throbs

A raw but gifted work - such beautiful language.. I'm sure your cousin was comforted by this; how can she not be? I'm in awe of this one, Nette. <3

I agree --- except I find it polished, Nette. Bravo! ~ Gershon
