I Begged For You
I sit on this park bench rain pouring down,
people hurrying by, with umbrellas up
going to and from the shops in town,
sitting here with my dog, I'm holding a cup
a little girl watched by her protective mother
approached me with her small hand clasped
into my cup she drops a coin then another
She looks at me and smiles, happy? she asked,
with a tear in my eye, due to her compassion,
I'm cold, wet, hungry, smelly, no, not happy
then looking into my cup with anticipation
what I saw didn't disappoint, I'm a lucky chappie,
not a coin but a locket with an amazing picture
a picture of my late wife, she was my soul mate,
I looked up, I had a feeling of being much richer
the girl and her mother were going through the gate
I felt at peace, warm, dry, clean and content,
next to me wasn't my dog but my beautiful wife
then I came to realise this wonderful event,
we were together again in heaven to start a new life.
