I Ask You This

“If I have to cry to keep you, I will keep weeping.”- The Temptations

If our atmosphere
Becomes a shattered animosity

If our cumulus clouds
Become wrecking balls against our Sun

If the touch of your hands,
Turns into rabid, feline tongue

If your messages of clarity & “I love you”
Translate into a Mime’s distress signal

If the sway of your rosemary breaths
Disappear

I ask you

Would your love
Your real love
Really
Truly
Make me shed oceanic leaks

While you ride leaky canoe
Above our water garden

Never tossing raft

Never diving in
To become my lighthouse savior

Because love
Real love
Should never
Ever
Make you embrace torment’s cry

Nor should love
Ever reciprocate
With muted stanzas

I really enjoyed this one, partly because I believe I chose the correct corridor of understanding. I spoke of some of the same emotions in my post, "True Love Never Knows Why." The silence of a love unreturned results in an almost unbearable pain. Growing doubt of someone's love for you is hard to bear. I believe we use ink from the same inkwell, but use different quills. Nice, writing. BTW thanks for your comment on "Eternal Hope." I left you a reply on it. -Jake always respecting your craft.

no real love should not make us embrace torments cry...though sometimes it does, made me think of the song by brandy, have you ever loved somebody so much it makes you cry...I think many of us can say we have...now you have me pondering so many thoughts as good poetry often does...excellent poem Drake... from a sincere and beautiful heart it flows :) hugs

Yes, having been on both sides of the fence, I can say it can make us cry. But, that's kind of when you know. That Brandy song is a good example, certainly. I'm glad this is making you think. Thanks so much, Sandra!

I completely agree with you! True and honest love should never make us cry. The only tears that fall, should be tears of joy. An excellent poem, Drake, very emotional and heartfelt. I loved it!

I enjoyed the dialogue this piece creates. I would say that all are worth the tears and if they are not we haven't gotten to know them well enough. Sometimes we have been hurt in ways that prevent us from seeing or being seen and in the end we miss out on the magic that exists at the core of each of us.
