I am what I am

I am what I am,
I feel what I feel,
I do what I do —
and that’s real.

Why should I change?
Just ’cause you say so?
Your truth isn’t mine,
and that’s okay, though.

I wear my pink shorts wherever I please,
I drink my water while you sip your tea.
I like my stories short and sweet,
I like my laughter loud and free.

Even our five fingers aren’t the same,
so how can we expect the world to be tame?
A sea of humans — each one rare,
each with their own color to share.

It’s time to accept our differences,
it’s time to soak in acceptance.
The world is burning all around —
let kindness be the calm we’ve found.
