I Am What I Am

I am what I am, my pen is my voice
this is how God made me, it was not my choice.

I feel what I say, I say what I feel
I'm not an imposter, I strive to be real.

I may not be rich but I am not poor
I revere truth and beauty but honesty more.

I am often weak but I can be strong
I fight for what's right and against what is wrong.

I have many faults and, of course, imperfections
but I don't deal in lies or misdirections.

I am what I am, it is all I can be
I leave my heart open for all to see.

I know how to love and how to forgive
I'll maintain my integrity as long as I live.

I feel what I say and I say what I see
I am what I am and will always be.

Interesting poem in year 2008. Interesting poem in 2021. Nothing has changed and everything changed. Freedom of speech comes to mind when I read this. Little did we know I would read this poem on this day in history and see what I see going on in the world. MAY THE LORD ALWAYS BE BY YOUR SIDE

I love this powerful write. The voice in the poems speaks with force and anger. I can hear the fustration in this piece from the voice within. A voice that is doubted, a voice that wants to be seen and heard for what it is. Robin you are a talented lady with a strong poetic voice. Loved it.!

I like the rhythm here. They should invent a new phrase for 21st century writers since 'the keyboard is mightier than the pen' doesn't sound as nice:) Except for line 2 we're in total agreement. Thanks for sharing.
