I Am the Autumn Witch

She entered the forest as the leaves turned golden and brown. The red and yellow ones swiftly laid their short lives on the ground. Is this the Autumn Witch? The knotholes asked the bark of their trees. Not sure, they replied, but she entered on a light October breeze. The Autumn Witch communed with the birds and the leaves. She let them know that she was here to support grasses and trees. I will follow the pumpkins out of this world when it is time, she said. And they, like you leaves, will return to the earth, clay so red.
