I Am Sorry
I did not mean to hurt you,
That was the last thing I wanted to do,
But I was being selfish and I led you along,
I can see now it was hurtful and wrong.
The sin of omission is a sin just the same,
Even if I give it a fancy name,
It was wrong to let you believe a lie,
I hope our friendship will not wither and die.
I should have know to do what was right,
How ashamed I feel in your sight,
I know you must think less of me,
I hope in time you will come to see.
My desire to be close to you was so strong,
To dream “what if” was wrong,
I thought of myself before I thought of you,
And that dear friend was a terrible thing to do.
