Listen to poem:

I Am Rose

I am rose, although a dusty rose;
my journey forward has been long and hard
along this narrow well-worn path I chose
that’s left me old and grey with dust-caked clothes
and dreams dismissed, emotions slightly scarred.

And yet the hopes that ever lead me on
are optimistic dreams with colored bows;
I’m always chasing my tomorrow’s dawn
and reaching for the dreams to which I’m drawn;
my lifetime color is a dusty rose.

I've been kicking your poem around, I think I may have knocked it into a song, I'm going to post and if you like it you can add it to your album, non- rhyming verse is a challenge, I did have to modify a word for flow, other than that it's all you John

I love the different kind of spin you did in rose by calling it dusty. Very creative work. Congratulations

I left for years and when I came back, I don't think I thought to come read you, but I remember we used to "mutually read" and enjoyed same. How are you? You still have an impressive pen. If this is for the contest, I think you'll do very well. Poetry hugs ... CayCay (aren't u in Dallas?)(if I've got the past all wrong, I'll not be embarrassed, too late for that, I'm quite visible here.)

I found this poem honest yet uplifting. I especially liked the imagery in these lines: narrow well-worn path I chose that’s left me old and grey with dust-caked clothes and dreams dismissed, emotions slightly scarred. The dusty rose color suits the message in this poem...perfect! Sara

It's a very beautiful color you've chosen, John. It speaks of the storms you've weathered and yet, the positive hope that remains in your dreams.
