I Am Only Human

In the most anguished moments of my life
times when my mistakes cause me strife
I feel I deserve a birch wood beating
to go unpunished would be cheating
and then I recall
that through it all
with trepidation loomin'

    I am only human

We’re all only human, Lin. Our mistakes are our flaws and in many ways, our beauty. Keep being human, Lin… we love you for it.

Lin, how can you be "only human" when you have such an indomitable spirit

That's quite a compliment to live up to, John. Thank you. My spirit is always willing, flesh sometimes weak, but I'm honored by your thoughts.

To be a poet was once human Lin, I say (was) as AI seems to be writing quite a few poems on this site and even entering contests, so maybe a virtual birching might be in order, (not for you) your poetry proves you are human, so go easy on yourself, cheers David

I'll spare the rod on my backside, but let's beat the heck out of anyone who uses AI to post a poem and call it his/her own. As humans we have faults, but some of the AI poetry I've witnessed here is worse than substandard, and I refuse to lower my standards to soulless words, written in rote. Thanks for opening my page and leaving your good cheers.

Each mistake we make is a lesson learnt, they can only make you stronger, you don't deserve a beating, you deserve a badge of honour. Enjoyed reading your poem Lin.
