I am just a boy

I can be old and wise
Nothing much will take my surprise
But deep inside
I am just a boy

He's never grown with me
He's still there wanting to be free
His memories shattered
Then I remember
I am just a boy

I've lived through much
Laughter, fights, heartbreak and such
I have Children of my own now
And they remind me how
I am just a boy

One day he will be free
One day he'll look at me
We will share our thanks
Then I'll remember
The boy I used to be

Many will relate to your poem.. childhood trauma can last till adulthood.. where our inner child still wants to break free..

This poem flows so beautifully and is so well delivered. like coco chanel said, “ men are like children, if you know that you know everything” and I personally live by it. As theres this boy within that suppressed so much and has seen so much but had to let it all be inside and grow up to face it all. Brilliant poem this is very poignant and sincere. Pleasure reading
