I Am Free

drawn down in 
consummation
from heaven’s compost
I shall not be.

hacked as though
I were a succulent berry
juiced for the taking
I shall not be.

caught vole by a
diving shrike’s
talons
I shall not be.

I shall be Houdini
wriggling free.
