I Am Counting the Days To Freedom

I am counting the days to freedom To dolls house and hide and seek To our voices crashing like a cataract Against stone deaf Shadows hanging over our love Like a rock. I am counting the days to freedom Our long procession weeping For the lizard We chased through the grass So we could test our competence At eulogy too. I am counting the days to freedom To the exploration Of what took the tease from father's eyes And the smile from mother's heart. They no longer pretend About the emptiness in them That keeps them busy Chasing their own thoughts for an end, What shall I do with an entire day By myself alone? I am counting the days to freedom.
