I Am Bored With the Royals

by Michael J. Falotico

Gas prices are going sky high..
Yet the Prince is getting married and the Queen will cry..
Our soldiers are fighting for some peace..
Yet the headlines read about the table centerpiece..
Tornados and destruction tear down the world today..
And again we are shown pictures of a wedding in May..
Homes being sold and the jobless rate sky rocket..
The story is a ring and carrots in a prince's pocket..
How distracted we get like with Monica and Bill..
And not soon later the twin towers fell..
The wedding is a wonderful story but not for the front page..
We should be reading about the hero's and not a prince on a stage..

A great win, all we heard for months on end was news of the Royal Wedding here in England, although it was a lovely ceremony, yes there are more important front page news. Many congrats to you x

This is most excellent, Michael. I concur one thousand percent. We are so wrapped up into the royals as a culture and need to focus more on those who are the real STORIES! High five for an awesome couplet piece! Gwendolen

Aren't we a strange society, that we put such importance on unimportant matters? A terrific topic for your poem, Michael! Congratulations!

I have grown bored (and irritated) with Prince Charles and the queen, Michael. But in young William I see some of Diana's humanitarian values. Just watched a movie last night on how he met his bride to be. Diana was one of my idols. I do, however, understand the point you are making here. When "commoners" have so many concerns, these deserve headlines. Best wishes in the contest! Love, Carolyn
