I Am An Impressed Grandma
He is playing chess at the age of five
Taught as an extra class at school
Not yet in kindergarten, but playing chess.
I ask what he likes about it.
Everything, he replies
What is your favorite piece?
The king and then the queen.
I tell him I like the knights.
The ones who make the L’s, he says.
I ponder this.
He is five.
Playing chess.
I am an impressed grandma.
