I Am a Tree
I am,
the Cherry, my graceful beauty reminds all that life renews with fragrant spring blossoms
the Birch, thriving by the river of life
the Dogwood, dazzling all with my shades of color
the mighty Oak, standing strong for my loves
the Elm, with my inner strength and intuition
the Ash, tallest of all, tree of healing
the Pine, who brightens the holidays reaching for the stars of eternal life
the Sycamore, spreading my long arms to shelter all
the Apple, sharing my sweetness with all who come near
the Maple, delighting with my fall fireworks
the Willow, weeping for the ashes you buried at my base
and the sapling, clawing, fighting, stretching toward the sun to claim my place in this forest of life.
