I Am a Thing

My name, to some, is mary jane
I think it a shame
to even play this game
with me, as I have so many names-

I must proclaim
it is my aim
to assist in it's fame
To gain much acclaim.

There should be no law
As there is no flaw
Of this natural painkiller
I stand in awe -
Born straight from earth
without withdraw
one can smoke and enjoy -
Even Ma and Pa.

Oxycontin, vicodin, morphine
All these will make you a dope fiend
But not the good ol' green
Won't even make you mean
No passing of addictive genes

To put into light
and help this fight
Focus on this sight-
First used as medicine by the Chinese in
2737 B.C.

Ever heard of alcoholic DT's?
Bud doesn't have these.
Overdose on methamphetamines?
Can't OD on BC Green.

How can the Gov' legalize all the above,
When evidence and stats show
I don't contain all the woe
that all this other synthetic crap does?

What am I?

You are rockin' and rollin' Amy! Welcome back...You are right on target here...This is why the Indians called them 'peace pipes' and of course, they used Peyote in their prayer ceremonies as well...THEY got it right... I'm not aware of any case of a man beating the sh-t out of a woman after using either one of these plants that God put on this earth for us...Great work and congrats - Tim

WOW, AMY, you took this one with the flow, and the excitement in wanting to know what it is? Could it be the other 5 leaf clover? :) I got to know, I wanna know! Is Mary Jane, making the pain go away. LOL..I so so so love this one. My fav of them all... Unique and not what I would expect all. I have a blog "What did you say about me???" Hopefully, you stop by when you have time, and reveal the answer. Tell US here or on my blog. WAHT! WHAT! And WHO YOU ARE? Always and Forever ~LINDA

You present compelling arguments in great style here, Amy. There are many prescription meds that are not only addictive but have severe side effects that "Mary Jane" does not. Great poem and I wish you well in the contest! Love, Carolyn
