I am a poet, But you'd never know it. I speak with words of no import, No sparkling or witty retort. I am ordinary at best, Not many are impressed. Invisible at times I feel, Yet I know that I am real. But put a pen in my hand, And my muse takes command, Sending words like a flood, To flow in ink, as though blood. Magically words appear on blank page, Lyrical, rhythmic to engage, Words of spiritual reflection, Words of wit and introspection. And when my muse has had her fill, Of creativity's free will, I look down at what is finished, My amazement undiminished. Yes, I am a poet. To look at me you'd not know it, But read my written words and you'll see, A creative cache of poetry.

A delicious write that I can relate to. My fav lines.. I look down at what is finished. My amazement, undiminished! I can relate to that. I cannot believe the length and number of poems I have written in relatively few years. Stuns me)) It’s like a miracle. And I cannot type.!and my comments are rarely short.)): One finger, one poet, one soul, on a roll! I like that last line a lot. Pangie And I am eighty five and a hell raiser still? Yahoo. PANGIE

Yes Muse take command is the only way to discribe it. I lost it for a while but now it's back.

I wonder how many of us, here on these boards, recognise themselves in these lines. A smashing write from a smashing poet… and, yes, I do mean you, Kim. Nicely put.

Yes you are, Kim, and rightfully proud! It took me many years to be able to make the same claim, feeling that compared to “real” poets I had no place, but I have embraced the idea that my work entitles me to identify as such…

Thank you, Ilene! I feel strange telling people I'm a poet - it sounds so pretentious. I was contemplating how people see other people and how we don't always see the whole picture. What does a poet really look like? Apparently like you and me! Blessings, Kim M

Thank you for your kind comments, Anne-Lise! I know that all of us here on Soup are poets. When I wrote this I was contemplating how people see other people and how people outside our circle may not see who we really are. Blessings, Kim M
