I Am a Lonely Milkweed Pod
I am a lonely milkweed pod
No one is here to see my prettiness
No child has taken me to school
My seeds are almost ready to fly off and leave me.
Could life feel any more lonely?
It was raining the day I flew away from my mother.
She was crying, but kept that hidden.
She did not want me to know how lonely it is
Living a life by a pond no one seems to know
I do not want to complain, but I feel I must.
When I signed on, I had no idea it is a solitary life.
My next one I want to be a dragonfly.
They get to zoom around from place to place
Seeing new things, meeting new plants, delighting everyone.
