Seventh Place

Top poem list in December, 2023

"Your Christmas tree may be standing tall and beautiful,
and twinkling, but inside it is weeping ... its spirit and soul dying."

                                          Quote by  _ Constance

* I am Christmas in a fir tree, I was born wild, in a boreal forest. And I never imagined, that I would end up lit up, my branches holding decorations. I was about strength and about courage, a river flowed past me since I was a young. Now, I am tranquility and serenity in my death, a symbol of Christmas, twinkling in the living room. My branches like a quiet violin crying, you can hear them falling I gave to life all the soul I had in me, all these years, trembling in the wind, the sun, the rain and snow. My reward for being majestic is my death ... how cruel! I rested under the snow and placed on a cloak of pure white beauty, then ... in the Spring my roots felt the black earth and I dug deeper.

Constance, congratulations on your win. Cutting down our Christmas tree each year I have had the same feelings until I realized we were only topping the tree - leaving its roots and four or five whirls of branches to form a new tree. Every year when we go to the tree farm I see new trees growing up from the remaining branches. Changed my view. I now see them as a sign of renewal and resurrection. But, that being said, your poem touches deep feelings in me. Thank you! Blessings!

Ah you’ve done this form so well dear Constance, definitely not easy doing this shape i guess, but you’ve nailed it. I love how this brings a festive vibe too with christmas tree etc but my fave line should be “ my branches like a quiet violin crying” just brilliant. And so creative

a stunning shape poem, Constance! I admire your ability to create such an intricate poem. I love how you described so accurately what a Christmas tree does..the joy it brings knowing its death is imminent. Will have to fave this one.

Sara, thank you so much for the compliment, yes, these shape poems are tricky to write, as you can see I wish that the trees were left to grow in the forests, yet, the joy they bring at Christmas is beautiful too, thank you for the FAV, blessings
