I Am

without a denial
life is brief and sticky sweet
tobacco claims me
ingested, it now eats me
still, it draws me, my lover

malformed cells heedless
spread diminishing myself
imploding, anxious
still I rise blessing, loving
cancer is not me, I am

tough poem girl, but i am tougher. I quit in may of 83 after smoking 27 years. It took some medicated help, but I got through it and have never smoked another. After six months of that I had to go on a diet and lose 35 pounds. I don't know which was tougher, but I won out in the end. have stayed the same weight ever since, within about 5 or so pounds which I gain or lose occasionally.
