I Am

I am…
Questionably nothing.
My eyes search for something.
But always come back empty-handed.

I feel…
Stuck in a nightmare.
My mind wraps around horrors of my own creation.
Unexplored areas have come out of the shadows to make horrors more prominent.

I think…
I am what I am not.
Confusion seeks refugee in my mind tonight.
It overwhelms my every crevice until it reigns completely supreme.

I see…
Inside my own mind.
Yet I cannot look into the real world.
All I see are images too gray to be from reality.

I can never be…
Anything acceptable in society.
I will always be something that lifts negative thoughts.
I can never be normal; I can never be anything but a fish out of water.

I am… a freak.

You're not a freak, Gwen. We all spend a great deal of time in introspection, absorbed by our own fears and nightmares. Excellent poem! Congratulations on your win. Have a Merry Christmas. Love, Carolyn
