[This poem was written in the mid-1960s and first appeared in my chapbook, "The Lady in the Pink Hat," Candor Press, 1969.]

the last rose battered and beaten Bowed for final bequest weary, and rejected, I whisper a final request for one who suffers failure like me--the struggle for life. When utter end is strife the bud grows fat and tight on the vine And the future that waits to blossom is mine.

Great poem; even the circumstances are different, but those gems are always there waiting for some dust to be released so that they can brighten again. Thanks for sharing, Milton
