I Almost Wrote a Poem

I almost wrote a poem
I nearly did it today 
inspiration took hold
then very quickly
               slid  
                     away
I grabbed hold of a pen 
but alas, it was too late  
my poem had erased 
          like chalk dust
                    from a slate
and now I'm left bereft    
at the loss of charming verse 
but at least I've written this - 
so I guess it could be worse!
