Hurt Another Time
You welcomed me into your life arms open wide
I entered yours hesitantly
I’d been hurt too many times
I built up a wall of colorful hues
Consisting of shades black, grey, white and even a little blue
You slowly started to paint it with colors i’ve never seen
See, I was so sheltered behind these walls
I was never exposed to the light beyond it, shining
You, were shining, and started opening cracks and crevices in my facade
And I started squeezing myself through bit by bit
With time, the bricks wore down
And somewhere along the way
I started to welcome you into my life
Arms open, just not exactly wide
I let you in hesitantly
I’d been hurt too many times
I had layers and layers of masks
Smiling and dry eyed
But you saw through all of them
And gently peeled them off
Your hands were angelic
See, whenever I try, my hands are rough and agonized
They scratch, and claw, they cry
In substitution for my eyes
For they have worn this clown’s face for far too long
They forgot how to be real
My defense mechanisms are so used to joking
I know only how to joke, and to laugh, and to push people away
But you, you stayed
You somehow knew how to avoid my hand
And how to pick my brain
You pulled out the turmoil, the anguish, the pain
You won your hide and seek with what was on my mind
And somewhere along the way
I welcomed you into my life
Arms open, a little bit too wide
I let you in over the fence
Putting aside the part where I’d been hurt too many times
My distress started to seek refuge in you
You consistently watered my flowers
It seems they finally started to bloom
When my mind was driven crazy
I would drive into yours to stay for the night
But I left debris and dust behind
The plastic from my masks trashed your floors
I didn’t know you were allergic to pollen
I stopped using sunscreen since you were my shade
I never cut my finger again since you held the blade
But you got sunburnt and your hand was slain
So you started doing the same
You laughed, and joked, and ran away
I laughed, and joked, and began to chase
And somewhere along the way
You pushed me out of your life
Arms out, barriers wide
I backed out, reluctantly
I let myself get hurt another time
