Hurry, Hurry, Don'T Miss the Ferry

Hurry, hurry, don't miss the ferry That takes you up to Londonderry They are having their annual fair You'll hear them sing Londonderry Air. Take the trolley up to London town Where London Bridge is Falling Down Be sure to listen for old Big Ben And when you leave come back again.

Occasionally I get in to writing a nursery rhyme. I like the sing-song rhythm, and always the hope that some mom will use it with their tot.

Hi Milt. I really like this nursery rhyme and like most nursery rhymes there are dark stories behind them. The original London Bridge rhyme is thought to refer to its falling down in 1014 when Viking leader Olaf Haraldsson allegedly pulled it down during an invasion of the British Isles. As for Londonderry: It's in Northern Ireland. It's name is disputed by Irish Nationalists (Derry) and Unionists (Londonderry) alike. I've never been. :) Cheers - Gary

I was really trying for something one could recite to a little child, perhaps adding verses from their own imagination. Thank you for the compliment, Delice.

One of these days I'll make it to the UK, when I do I'll have to visit Londonderry. Never heard of it (lol). Nice write, Milton!

Thanks for reading my little ditty, Charles. I've been to UK three times...still looking for the sunshine. I've never been to Londonderry, but I've heard of it.
