Hunting Trip

We went walking
among the trees
in the sloping woods
where the chill wind
lost its way.

A search for fallen walnuts.

We shared one mitten,
and finger-danced
in that hiding place.

Other hunters
asked us
if we had found anything?”

Our eyes were secretly bright,
as we answered,
“Yes."
