Notes About The Poem

“Let this be your first lesson: give with one hand and take with the other. No one will be watching both.” - Susie Yang
“The hand that gives is above the hand that takes.” - an Arabic Proverb, also used by Napoleon

hunger

Listen to poem:

Hunger Sleeps Standing

Hunger sleeps standing,
leaning against time,
Its door is ajar,
wanting and waiting,
for the fast to lift.
Can't miss the hand-out
when it comes,
from one hand held-out giving,
to one hand held-out receiving,
both awake and aroused.
