Hummingbird Constanza

Hummingbird Constanza In the lazy days of summer Buzzing life naps in cool shade Ice clinks in glasses – lemonade! To my garden darts a newcomer Zooming from blossoms to feeder Waiting in strong boughs of cedar. Ruby-throated flying hummer - Like the shadow in neon green Fleeting sight of aerial sheen. Tastes the nectar of midsummer Honey imbued syrup savors Delicate ambrosia flavors. When crickets chirp, rests in slumber Tiny wings finally resting Often upside down - dreams nesting. In the lazy days of summer To my garden darts a newcomer Ruby-throated flying hummer Tastes the nectar of midsummer When crickets chirp, rests in slumber. 7-30-20

Have also learned they can fly backwards! They are beloved part of our backyard aviary! Thank you Andrea. Loved writing in Connie's original form. Hope you are well. In my prayers.

this is wonderfully done, sam! i don't know if this is a type of poem or if you've created it yourself, but i loved the rhyme scheme and was delighted at the way the first line of each verse rhymed with all the others. i don't even think you needed the final verse - it was like an explanation for something i thought i discovered on my own (although it makes a fine poem all by itself)...

Hi ilene! Thank you so much for your message. This form is a Constanza, designed by Connie Marcum Wong, written for a contest highlighting Connie's creation. It was fun to create based on our crazy hummingbirds who scold us when their feeders are empty! All the best!
