Humanity's Masks

Humanity's masks are fading away,
Real faces are emerging underneath the facade of love, kindness and patience.
Ugly streaks of hate and prejudice appearing between the cracks of a forced smile.
Laughing emoji stickers hiding the sharp teeth of anger and hostility,
Which wait, ready to gnaw away the offered hand of friendship and compassion.
Humanity's masks are slipping, and, once they have fallen,
The real horror of humanity will be visible at last,
To terrify those who have trusted and admired a false guardian.
