Human Rights

Humans have the right to assemble in peaceful protest
Unless you’re a Kyle Rittenhouse.
Then you can go to a peaceful protest to start something,
Kill people and go free.

Women have the right to make healthcare choices for themselves
Unless you’re a woman in Texas.
Then you get to have men in power tell you that it doesn’t matter
How you got pregnant. You need to stay that way.

People have the right to be safe at work
Unless you teach in Iowa.
Then you can go to your classroom and
Work all day with hundreds of unmasked, unvaxxed students each day.

Human have the right to a safe, habitable place to live
Unless you’re poor.
Then you have the right to fight for a warm street grate
And pray that you are not assaulted as you dream of your next meal.

People have the right to expect a peaceful transfer of power
Unless you live in the United States
Then crazy people storm the capitol and try to steal that right.
And you get to watch them defend a crazy man in the media.

Human rights used to mean something.
Human rights used to be our foundation.
Human rights have been bastardized.
Human rights don’t exist for many anymore.
