How We Sail the Ship of State
How We Sail the Ship of State

How we sail the Ship of State
Is in the Constitution's Words
Defines the only way to do it
It's the law or so I heard
Three departments make the crew
Executive, Legislative, Court
Among them checks and balances
To guide us into port
For when we are on stormy seas
As in this election year
We should know who took what actions
Before we sink and that is clear
The president's the captain
Of our great ship of state
The Vice president is second
You could say he is first mate
The House and Senate are the crew
Not least of all there is the court
To verify the way's not lost
As we're headed into port
But what about we citizens
Who pay to sail this boat?
What is our responsibility
To keep this ship afloat?
At the end of every cruise
Here's what we're supposed to do
If we did not enjoy the trip
Change the Captain and the crew
Otherwise, man the lifeboats,
For this ship will surely sink
And we the people will be the reason
That we ended in the drink
