How Soon They Forget

How many times do you take the high road? When you raise your kids to the best of your ability. Always thinking of them first. When you make them smile it quenches your thirst. For 18 years you keep up your guard. Keeping all danger away. Just when you close your eyes, and turn your head, they have grown up and moved away. All of a sudden the skies are grey. The tears, they build up for many years. Keeping them inside where the silence is near. You would like to think that they will go down the right path and not stray. Each one has a different personality, no matter what you do you cannot make them sway. They give you the silent treatment like flipping a switch. Which can hurt in all different ways. Even if you rescue them in their time of need, they seem to forget it so easily. The least little thing you say or do, will get you the silent treatment that will make you blue. Like a knife that cuts through a turkey, it slices through your back and into your heart. No tears to shed because you still have a life to live. Yet the silencing that you are experiencing, you feel it right from the start. At times they are so bold, walking right in front of you feeling so cold. How soon they forget how you helped, they seem to forget so easy even when you get old. Like the star that falls from the sky, the tears come out of your eye. Forever falling and will never dry. How soon they forget the silence that they are giving, rips through the heart right from the start.
