How Many Minutes Do I Have Left
How much time do I have left, doctor?
Nineteen minutes and twenty-two seconds.
What to do first.
Who to call?
What to say?
What not to say.
Stressed out I reach for my pen.
When I look up again I have seven minutes left.
I have written five words.
I am going to die.
I wander into my bedroom.
Throw myself in on the bed.
Close my eyes tightly.
Ten or eleven times
Stress keeps me awake
I stare at the red eye on the clock
Watch my life tick away slowly.
Six minutes.
Five minutes.
Two minutes.
There are now twenty-one seconds left
I scream
believing a doctor
who knew nothing….
