How It Feels To Be An Artist

What it's like to be an artist:
Liberating
Free to express your ideas
As long as you don't offend anyone
Because you know we have free speech
And free press as well
But people are fragile
They can shatter over anything
They don't want you to use profanity
Or talk about the government
You aren't allowed to talk about rape
Or racial issues
You must stay silent about controversies
Because we don't want anyone to be uncomfortable
You know art was meant to be palatable
Or at least that's what they tell you it should be
But I don't agree
Art was created to break rules
And crash through boundaries
Stir up emotions
And to kick start creativity
Art is a way to create a storm
Whip up a tornado
Using a whirlwind of color, sound, or words
Art does not follow a specific pattern
You can't solve it
There is no definitive answer to what art means
It holds mystery, madness, and excitement
It can educate and spark conversation
You can't contain that
You can't box that in
You can't ignore the genius
So don't be afraid
To color outside the lines
Or make people uncomfortable
Start making a difference
Instead of just asking how it feels to be an artist
Start experiencing it

Beautiful, bold and honest expressions. Ah, if only that were true in every case. A 7. Kim
