How Dim the Stars
"When love fades into the depth of night, stars lose the glimmer of their light."
Poet's quote.
A star riddled sky recurs in beautiful dreams
We danced and whispered tender words of love
Only Orion overheard
Oh, starry, starry night
how wistful I am when I gaze upon you now
my heart yearning for him and for my loss
Weeping in restless sleep; upon my bed I toss
wishing on a distant star that somehow
within my dreams I could take flight
with wings of a songbird
then I would croon lyrics of mourning, like a dove
amid the gleam of starlight and moonbeams
But dreams become tattered, ripped open at the seams
No longer do I wish on stars above
My heart refuses to be stirred
by romance and moonlight
for it remembers a love and the whispered vow
Stars have dulled and dimmed; faded is their gloss
