Hostages to Fortune
Hostages to Fortune
Treading on the destined journey of life
Amidst the stress and strains of soulful strife,
In search of the soft breeze of happiness,
To retire in unobtrusive stillness,
To shield oneself and treasured ones from storms,
Man`s primal goal is to build a home;
It is a home cast not merely in stones,
But with some dolls too, one may call one`s own,
A source of joy and hope to reach the sky,
A cherished treasure, apple of the eye,
To brighten life with their sunshine of smiles,
Lend a helping hand to tread our last miles.
These treasures render us caring and grave
On every danger we are used to brave;
With every step in life they boldly make
Our breath frantically begins to ache
For fear of an ill that may afflict them,
Day by day turning to a precious gem.
Each childish wound, in parent`s heart resounds
Like the tweets of birds, hovering around,
Each of their stumble raises parents` ache,
Disposed for all sacrifice for their sake
And would gladly sustain hundreds of scars
To keep them safe and sound beneath the stars.
We become their custodian, so true,
Yet bound to them in everything we do,
A weight sweet and scented, a heavy chain,
A summer sunshine mixed with pouring rain,
We shield them closely, with anxious might,
Pray for darkness to fade, switched in with light.
Source of our shining hope and shrouded fears,
We covertly wipe away our warm tears
As in their eyes we catch our real worth,
At all times, we try to maintain our mirth,
Hostages to fortune, verily true
Yet, they unfurl shines of joy, ever new.
