Hope Forlorn
Oh, hope so fragile: hope forlorn -
when pain or sorrow are the yoke
it seems for ages you have worn,
on fumes of great dismay you choke.
Each day upon your knees you pray.
Oh, hope so fragile; hope forlorn.
When burdens do not go away,
you ask how long they must be borne.
You search for the rose, but its thorn
pricks your hand as you reach for it.
Oh, hope so fragile; hope forlorn!
You must persist. You cannot quit.
Though friends you have, you’re still alone
in what your own soul needs to mourn.
You smile despite woes at you thrown.
Oh, hope so fragile; hope forlorn.
