Hope Fades

Hope fades.
Dreams burn.
Promises are broken,
Tables turn.
Words can kill the heart,
or turn the tides.
Self defeat can cripple,
that little flame inside.
Pieces of ourselves,
lay abandoned in the wake,
Nothing left to give,
Not a tear for sorrow's sake.
Vague and shallow wisps,
of smoke among the wreckage.
Wounds that never heal,
and never offer penance.
Apologies are pointless,
when none are ever offered.
The spirit slowly withers,
And life, becomes a coffin....
