Hope Deferred

MY HEART
IS A WOUNDED BIRD
WINGS QUIVERING
IN SILENT PAIN
WITH STIFLED BREATH
UNABLE TO FLY
PALED FROM BATTLE
MY HEART
IS AN ICEBERG
WEIGHED HEAVY
IN MY CHEST
FOGGING MY THOUGHT
WITH COLD MIST
RAINING DOWN
MY SKIN, INSIDE.
