Hope

You need hope
4 walls around you
Maslow’s hierachy of needs
To look up at

She had played two encores
Was the show over?
Standing with her back toward us, tuning her guitar
Black top and jeans, steel on her middle finger

The next-door table got quiet
When she started to play
You couldn’t hear a pin drop
But not a beer was sold

It was like a pat on your back
Like a kiss on the mouth
It was like a kick in the ass
Toe-curling fireworks

The couple who had been arguing
Now held hands, under the table
The song was high up, and low down
The ending was like an ******

You need hope
That song brought me hope
The next band
Hopeless
